"Beneath" (2013) 7/10
A group of mine workers gets trapped in a collapsed mine and slowly starts to lose it. Or is something down there with them?
Pretty good horror flick.
"At The Devil's Door" 6/10
From the director of "The Pact" comes something more or less the same, altho this is more about possession than haunting.
The first 10 minutes started out really promising, being pacy and creepy and all. And the movie WAS well made, pacy and well acted, i'll give it that. There was just one big problem. It wasn't fucking scary.
Sure it had a lot of atmosphere and it did have a couple of effective jump scares. But most of the time you just get creepy music while looking at a shelf, a chair, an empty room and what not. THAT'S NOT FREAKIN SCARY!! A face in the window, THAT's scary. An empty couch, NOT scary!! Jesus..
You would've thought the director knew this already after making "The Pact" where the scares worked. But another thing he still hasn't learned is to make it clear where the protagonist is in the movie. Like the case was with "The Pact" I also in this movie had a hard time figuring out if the girl was home, in the abandoned house or some place else. That's mildly irritating.
And the ending was a big pile of crap.
Oh well.... worth a watch.
