Tom Cruise's turn to live through
Groundhog Day through an alien invasion. Cruise haters would have a ball watching him die umpteen times (and then some, and some more), but thankfully the film doesn't try to take itself too seriously. It's actually much better than
Oblivion (Cruise's last sci-fi/action effort), and is helped immensely by a pacy script and excellent supporting actors, notably Bill Paxton who's perfectly cast in his role. The tongue-in-cheek humor and the largely-subdued Cruise do make for some good viewing.
The cinematography is excellent and the effects are superb. It will remind you of one of those 8-bit ultra-hard video games which you played back in the early 90s, where you died umpteen times and started back from the beginning over and over again.
BTW, a gripe I had was with the alien drone design, which was simply too similar to the Sentinels from
The Matrix. But don't let that deter you too much - just watch the film and use two hours of your life for a good dose of fun and enjoyment.
