It's been fun going back and seeing the responses to this question. Some answers were huge surprises for me. So, I'll have a go.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre, 1974- The original has been my absolute favorite movie for decades. So far, no other title has challenged that.

Friday the 13th - Pt two. It's Jason instead of mom, the potato sack mask/demented farmer Jason design is tops in the series if you ask me, and the kills are a hoot!!

Nightmare On Elm Street- The first. I love Dream Warriors and New Nightmare, but the first is a fever dream and is the scariest in the franchise.

Scream- The fourth. Yeah, I'm sure there's plenty to criticize about this entry, but it felt fresh, had some solid talent onscreen and the pace was outstanding.

Basket Case- I love the first one but I'm taking part two. Wicked monster designs, a house full of freaks, Granny Ruth, and Jason Evers from The Brain That Wouldn't Die? No question in my mind, the second effort is the most entertaining.

Halloween- The first one. Carpenter at the top of his game.

Evil Dead- Very tough to choose against part 2, but I will take the original Raimi film. Once things get rolling, it's borderline chaos and I like chaos!

Phantasm- I'll choose the first. I do think the four Phantasm films make up an incredible franchise, but the first set all that wonderful groundwork for madness that followed. It remains one of the most intriguing and utterly baffling movies I've ever seen.
