Stephen King considers it his lifes work, his masterpiece. And I have to agree, I have read the entire series 4 times through.

Not to mention if they follow through this will be a huge event. They are talking a movie to cover the first book, the first season of a TV series with the cast of the movie to cover the second book, a second movie to cover the third book, and so on until the whole story is told, essentially giving us un ending story for about five years!
Yes I agree. However his newer, edited version of TDK:The Gunslinger was very subpar compared to the original. Not the story, but the quality of the writing. Like he decided to make it 'easier'? to read for people. And the last book besides the last 1/6th of the book was fairly bad.

Side note. I've been trying to remember what book this happens in but seem to be unable to do so.

SPOILER FOR THE DARK TOWER SERIES AHEAD:
What book was it that the man in black tells a woman what is in store for her in the afterlife, allows her to see it or something like that and so Roland shoots her because she can't live with it? I thought it was in the Gunslinger, but I reread it and it wasn't in there.
