Wireless Internet Connection, Help!
My new baby (comp) came today, and I need to know how to get back on the damn internet on it. I used wireless connecting on the old one, and I still have the adapter and the router that we used. I don't want to spend anymore money, I just want to connect with the one I have, but I don't know how to make it work. My computer that i use connects wirelessly to the one i'm on now, this one has dsl and is plugged in always.
We have a westell (black) router down here, and I have a gray/white tiny box in my room that we used to get me connected wirelessly before. I don't know how to get on the net using them on my new computer! Help!

I need a fucking adapter that works with vista. VISTA. I already bought 1 and returned it to fucking radioshit because they told me it would work and it didn't. I need an adapter that works with vista and won't fuck up and I need it now. Can someone tell me what model, type, whatever that I can buy at a target or something or order that I can get today? if not, one that will be on my fuckin doorstep tomorrow, and no later. I'm sick of wasting my entire fuckin spring break on this damn computer trying to make the fucking internet work on the other stupid one.

Congrats on getting the new computer.
I'm not sure exactly what parts you have, and where the problem is. The bits you need are: DSL modem Router/wireless access point (these above 2 may be in the same device) Wireless card or usb device in your computer So your modem is connecting to the internet (ie your other computer works and gets net access) What sort of wireless device do you have on the new computer? PCI card or USB device? And does vista 'see' this device at all (ie is it a driver issue?) |

its because of vista.
I'm changing what i'm doping entirely. I'm going to r-shack, buying one of those phone jacks that plug into an electrical outlet, and then making my room be the main dsl line, and having THIS comp be wireless. Will this work? Are plug in jacks worth buying?

Here is a link to a review of one such ethernet over power cable adapter:
http://www.cnet.com.au/wireless/adap...0056722,00.htm As you can see, they are not without their problems. You have to be sure that both plugs are on the same circuit. They tend to be a bit more expensive than wireless. So I take it you can't get a vista driver to work with your wireless card? Netgear advertise that they support vista: http://www.netgear.com/Products/Adap...ers/WG311.aspx One of the problems with Vista at the moment is that not all hardware has compatible drivers. Some XP drivers work, some don't. |

I finally found a solution that works fine for me. I went to Fry's and bought a Netgear... thing. Where you plug one into the wall and plug a cord into the router with it, then do the same with the upstairs pc, and it links them, and i'm satisfied. Thanks to those who helped.
