Grindhouse

Saw it last night at a packed showing in Burbank.

My spoiler-free review

Planet Terror
- fucking awesome. Pure fetishistic sex-gore freak-out. Non-stop entertainment that will surely be a favorite film of many gorehounds here.

Deathproof - It kicks ten tons of ass when the cars are moving, but the "other stuff" that fills half the film is uninteresting at best. The ending is amazing and absolutely redeems the film, but it simply isn't as much fun as Planet Terror. I may have to see this one more than once to truly appreciate it, but it's cool.

The Trailers - Machete - Danny Trejo kicks ass, this is being turned into an actula feature. Thanksgiving is in hilarious bad taste Werewolf Women of the SS misfires completely (go figure) and **** (don't want to give away the name as it's the punchline) Edgar Wright's trailer is the most perfectly pitched element of the entire evening of entertainment. I'm still laughing about it.

All-in-all a fantastic night out at the cinema. The most bang for your buck you'll get all year.

No complaints, but I would have switched Death Proof and Planet Terror. That way the buildup would've all been at the beginning and the momentum would've carried from the climax of DP all the way to the end of PT

I'm actually looking forward to the "filler" in Death Proof more then the actual car-scenes. From what I've seen (overview show on SPIKE) the two girl squads spit out some pretty mean dialogue. Then again, I highly enjoy how Tarantino works in everyday discussion.

Finally a movie that I think is worth a movie price ticket. It's been months since I been to a theatre. I've been looking forward to this movie for a while and I heard nothing but good things from this movie. I'll check it out Monday.

Just got back from it. Incredible fun. Rod's right, about the only complaint that could be really had is the midpart of Death Proof starts to drag. It makes up for it in spades with the ending. The action is so intense and fun it's unbelievable. Tarantino is definately great with dialogue, but even he can't do 1/2hr worth of witty banter without making it seem like it's dragging a bit.

Eli Roth's trailer is worth the price of admission itself.
