Two new films from me.

Well, I guess 1.5, since one is a remake of sorts of one of my other projects.

Firstly, "What Why"

My first forray into surrealist movie-making, featuring allusions (in one case outright theft) of some of my favorite surrealists and experimental artists.

And secondly, the one I promised to have up this month, the real version of "No Exit."

Nice work- the effects in the first film were really well done.

No exit has improved greatly.

My only negative comment is that you tend to hold some of your shots too long. Like the eye in the pie- once we've seen it, we get it. IMO you don't need to linger on it so much. Same with the guy going down the stairs. After we see him the 4th time we get it- it's the same guy. Do we need 10 more? I think you're dwelling on it because you think the effect is cool.

A few tweaks could make No Exit more effective, IMO. In film it's the details that tell the story and make a piece interesting to watch. The scene where he grabs the girl is all shot in a murky medium shot. If you cut in a few close-ups of the action it would involve us more. I also had trouble believing the girl wouldn't scream till he grabbed her at the end. If somebody was chasing me through a parking garage I'd be yelling at the top of my lungs hoping there was SOMEBODY somewhere that would hear me.

It might be a cultural predjudice of mine, but whenever I see somebody with their hat on backwards I think "moron." So I had a bit of a problem seeing the guy as menacing.

I don't want to sound nit-picky, because I think they're both very good efforts and show talent. I went through a film/video program myself so I know how much work is involved. I know you want honest criticism- eh, you do, don't you?

Keep up the good work.

I did hold the shots deliberately, but not because I thought the effect was cool. I'm actually not as happy with the way they turned out as I could be. I just liked the way it was with the shots held for a long time. Just personal preference I guess. I tried to get as close as I could with the attack shots, but the camera just had a telephoto-type lens and I could only zoom it out so far without getting that ring around the frame.

What Why reminds me of the bathroom scene in the Monkees film Head. Good stuff enjoyed that one.
