Underworld 4: Awakening

EXCL: Screen Gems Moving Ahead with Underworld 4
Source:ShockTillYouDrop.com
August 8, 2009

ShockTillYouDrop.com has learned exclusively that Sony's Screen Gems is moving ahead with a fourth film in the "Underworld" franchise and is targeting a January 2011 release. The movie will be shot in 3-D.

We've received no word yet if Underworld: Rise of the Lycans stars Michael Sheen, Bill Nighy and Rhona Mitra, or former franchise stars Kate Beckinsale and Scott Speedman will return for the next film.

Back in February, we reported that the studio was pleased with the performance of the prequel that opened on January 23. The film was made for just $35 million and earned $91.1 million worldwide, not counting DVD and Blu-ray sales.

Stay tuned for more on the next installment as it comes in!

I have not seen any of the next-generation 3D films yet, but I hear it's very good.

If someone makes a movie that uses the 3-D in a manner that is worthwhile, I will be the first to go and see.

Heat Vision reports that "The Shield" writer John Hlavin has been hired to pen the fourth installment of the inexplicably popular and successful franchise.

Len Wiseman, who directed the first two films in the vampire-vs.-werewolf saga, is producing with Gary Lucchesi, Tom Rosenberg and Richard Wright of Lakeshore.

Currently, the fourth film, which Hlavin says will not be a prequel, has no director attached and neither Beckinsale nor Rhona Mitra, the star of the last film Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, are currently attached to return at this point.

While keeping the plot of the new film under wraps, Hlavin, “It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don’t want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements.”

Fresh elements? As in mummies? Will it be werewolves vs. vampires vs. mummies?

Makes as much sense as the previous conflict and you have to introduce a fresh element and you have mummies?

Anyway, the horror-action series has been successful for Screen Gems and Lakeshore, scaring up nearly $300 million worldwide.

Hlavin worked on such shows as "E-Ring" and "Daybreak" and was a writer and story editor on "Shield." He is developing his Western screenplay "The Gunslinger" at Warner Bros. and penning NBC's detective drama "Boston P.D.," which Don Cheadle is producing.

Underworld 4: New Dawn

Sony Screen Gems is getting ready to roll on the fourth Underworld film that is tentatively titled Underworld 4: New Dawn.

In addition, a little digging helped in uncovering the actual plot that was hidden until now:

Quote:
"After being held in a coma-like state for fifteen years, vampire Selene (Kate Beckinsale) learns that she has a fourteen-year-old vampire/Lycan hybrid daughter, Nissa, and when she finds her they must stop BioCom from creating super Lycans that will kill them all."
Swedish directors Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein will be taking the helm with a planned release on January 20, 2012 in 3-D.

Casting is underway.
