Does anyone know which movie this is?

I watched a movie in the late 80s where a couple is staying in a house where they dream and wake throughout the night about the sinister secrets of the house.

The woman enters the bathroom and either a glass smashes or the light bulb smashes on the floor. When she awakens, she realizes it was a dream but when she enters the bathroom, the smashed glass is on the floor.

She later (or earlier) dreams of a dead older woman drowned in the bath and again, when reaching for a blanket in the cupboard, stumbles upon the dead woman's body.

She sees the woman's husband kill her and witnesses the coffin at the bottom of the stairs (looks like a funeral). I seem to remember a canary or similar bird in an old fashioned bird cage - a lot of flashbacks.

It ends with the couple fleeing the house and as they leave, or when they are handing over the keys, they are introduced to the incoming couple (the dead couple they have been dreaming about !!!!)

I am hoping that someone may recall the plot above and be able to tell me what this movie was called.
