There was a great Barney Bear cartoon about him buying a Mexican jumping bean; it jumps into a shoe tied to another shoe; the shoes start jumping across the floor; they get snagged on a coat tree with a coat and a hat on it; in silhouette this appears to be a menacing intruder in the house at night; Barney Bear has some scary moments experiencing this.

What I found really interesting as a kid was that even though we could see that this "menacing intruder" was an illusion, even though we saw how the illusion was put together, the scene was still very scary. The way to music built up suspense during the scene definitely helped though.

Also, "The Wizard of Oz" is really creepy all the way through.

Also, the "Sleepy Hollow" segment of Disney's "Ichabod and Mr. Toad" is pretty darn scary!

Sorry hon. Okay, in the old McDonald's commercials, there was the Hamburglar, who wore striped clothes and a mask, and there was Birdie, who of course was a bird, and then there was:
Grimace.
He was a big purple weird thing shaped like a teardrop, sort of a prehistoric Barney......only he wasn't a dinosaur. Ick.
