Emo...eh?

This is what the editor of Blunt magazine wrote about the term "Emo" :-

"Emo, like "nu-metal" before it, is not only a dirty word, it's a dirty word with a used-by-date. Not only has it shifted so far from its original meaning, but the media's use and abuse of the word has virtually erased it's meaning completely.

The first time I ever heard a person referred to as "an emo", I almost had a cardiac arrest. Somehow "emo" had gone from being a musical style branching off from the US hardcore scene in the mid-80's to being a word used to define a person's character, like a "homie" or a "westie" or a "goth'' or a "punk" (which was ironically a character type before it was a musical style) - just a new name to package someone up with, a new slot to help seperate ourselves from one another.

Well I say it's bullshit. No-one is "an emo"; people are just people, and people are more complicated than any one word you'd like to apply to them. From my experiance, judging a person by how they dress or what music they listen to is selling a person way short.

If you agree with this.. tell others out there that the "Emo" tag (along with all other labels and stereotypes) is a load of crap.

hmm...whatcha think?

I guess I would be labeled as a "POSER", I agree with you I don't think one word can affectivly describe a person. I wear all differnt types of clothing, listen to all different types of music, and I have very different views about everything. EX: I like Rap music, but most of them let me be like mainstream for a minute "gangsters", little white kids who think they are "thuggish" and think drugs and portraying an image like they come from the "yonkers" need a rude awaking. I mean I wear Hip-hop clothing but I don't go around thinking i'm a "hardass", I also wear horror clothing, "preppy" clothing, whatever I am very open to everything.

Edit: I was in class a couple weeks ago and we had to give presentations to the class about who we were and are background and all of that, this one girl kept saying emo and it was really pissing me off I just wanted to go up and spit in her face !

I can't believe you said that, because that is the same image that comes into my brain when I hear it.

I always thought people were just huge fans of the movie "UHF" and Emo Phillip's small part in it:
