Weird...
So, if you ever get cut and aren't bleeding too heavily, check this out...'cos I wanna know if it's just me that finds this kinda weird.
Hold your hand with your fingers pointing upwards, knuckles towards you. Then put a drop or two (depending on the size of your hand) of blood into the area of skin around your fingernail - right in the centre. It might just be me, 'cos I haven't tested this on anyone else, but, when you put the blood there, does it travel upwards along your skin towards the top of your nail? Get a sterile stabbing/cutting instrument, you guys should try this.

Well if you look at your nail its convex, so it can really go any way.

Isn't it an example of a capillary effect?

I accidentally cut my left hand pointer finger almost in half last summer with a very sharp carpet knife.. clean through the nail and eerything.
the blood went just about everywhere. thats all the experimenting i'll be doing.

Isn't the afore mentioned test subject to the Chaos theory considering the shapes of fingernails vary. Also, the surface of the nail is completely imperfect. However, the way the blood surrounds the fingernail has always been, in my opinion, as humble as it is, cool. Unfortunately finger injuries are often painful given the amount of nerve endings in the finger, most particularly the tip.

serves me right for being a clumbsy carpet cutter .. the worst part was - i was home with my kid who was throwing up from the flu every 10 minutes .. so i couldnt go to the hospital. i had to hold my finger on with 2 scooby-doo bandages. how it healed without stitches is beyond me.

i was amazed myself - only missed 2 weeks of volleyball. only the smallest trace of a scar now - except my nail is 1/4 the size it used to be. it didnt hurt as much as i would have thought - it pissed me off more that hurt really.

Bout 3 yrs back we were unpacking and I dropped the inverter right on the big toe of my left foot. It smashed the toe to a bloody pulp which bled for almost 3 hours till I got to the doc, who gave 10 percent chance of the nail to stay on. But the toe healed (in almost 3-4 months), and the nail now is two-pieced. Meaning it grows as two pieces but is joined in the centre. Doesn't look any different from a regular nail unless you look carefully and notice the wedge in-between.
