Machine Man
With the current craze of comics-based movies, one couldn't be blamed if they were to mistake Mandalay Pictures' upcoming Machine Man film for an adaptation of the Marvel Comics android also known as Aaron Stack… but no, you'll have to wait a bit longer for that particular obscuro character to get his 15 minutes in Hollywood.
Rather, this Machine Man will be based on an online novel by author Max Barry. The novel, which sees pages getting posted online each day, will also be published by Vantage Books in 2011. It's about an engineer who, tired of his dull life, decides to start upgrading his body with new titanium parts… only to discover that "he isn't the only one with plans for his new body." The online experience of the book incorporates reader suggestions which Barry then integrates into the story. The author's other books, Company and Jennifer Government, were previously optioned by Universal and Warner Bros. respectively.
