Iron Man 2
April 24, 2008
With Iron Man less than a week away from release, director Jon Favreau has been doing the publicity rounds, and let some interesting titbits of information slip regarding the fuuture of the franchise this afternoon. Speaking to Rotten Tomatoes, Favreau said: "I've got another two movies in my head and I'm ready to go and I know the cast feels the same way. Now it's out of the hands of us, of the filmmakers, and it's even out the hands of your readers. I know all the people who have been following this for two years are going to go and see the movie, and maybe they'll see it twice and I'm very grateful for that. If everybody comes out to see the movie and it's successful, then I'm sure Marvel's going to want to do another." As for the cross-pollination of the Marvel franchises, like Iron Man's forthcoming cameo in The Incredible Hulk, Favreau said the producers are definitely keen. "They're not sharing control with a studio like Sony or Fox which is the arrangement they'd had in the past," he explained. "As certain characters revert back to them they're self-financing these projects which gives them the ability to combine characters if you want to." IGN also spoke to Terrence Howard, who had his own cryptic comments regarding the future of his character – Jim Rhodes. In the film (BIG SPOILERS AHEAD), he looks at Tony Stark's spare Iron Man suite and says to himself "next time baby". We assumed this meant he would don the War Machine suit in the next outing, but here's what the actor had to say about the line: "The beautiful thing about Marvel is that they've always stuck with the tradition of staying truthful to the comics and loyal to the fans. "If you've read the comics you'll know that that is the next phase, but there is another intermediate phase in there where he would have to put on his best friend's suit for a period of time." Fans of the comics will know that, due to Tony Stark's alcoholism, Rhodes is eventually forced to don the armour and become Iron Man in place of Stark, though he soon begins to get headaches, his behaviour becomes more erratic, and he eventually goes on the rampage. Stark is then forced to build himself another suit to stop his friend. Possible plot for Iron Man 2?

Sounds good. I think I'll just wait for this one first though.

Iron Man 2
June 11, 2008
Yesterday, ‘’Iron Man’’ director Jon Favreau mentioned on his MySpace page that he’s yet to officially sign on for the sequel – in fact, he hasn’t heard from anyone at Marvel for 5 weeks. Considering ‘’Iron Man 2’’ has already got a release date (April 2010), that’s a bit unsettling. According to IESB, the reason Favreau hasn’t been contacted in so long about the film – despite the fact he’s supposedly ‘in negotiations’ (according to Marvel) – is that they might be forging ahead without him. “About a week ago, the IESB was tipped off by a junior source at Marvel Studios that there had been some delays with Jon's negotiations regarding the sequel. When asked why I was told that Marvel and Favreau hadn't been able to come to terms regarding money. At first I thought my source was bluffing and I dismissed it as a rumor. This last Friday I was contacted by another source at Marvel and this one, let's just say, is much higher up on the food chain, and told me that the chairman of Marvel Studios David Maisel who has been in charge of negotiating new terms with Favreau is being cheap and not willing to pay a fair directors' fee.’’ Brett Ratner is no doubt waiting in the wings.

There was quite an uproar online earlier this week when it was reported that Marvel Studios might not be willing to meet Iron Man director Jon Favreau's fee to helm the sequel and that they would reportedly go with a different and less expensive director. What a difference 48 hours makes ... According to Deadline Hollywood Daily columnist Nikki Finke, "Marvel Studios boss David Maisel very recently put out an offer to Jon Favreau to direct the sequel and that the offer is 'definitely' richer than what the helmer received for the original. Even so, the negotiation has only just begun. So all that Internet blather about how Marvel doesn't want to bring back Favreau because the studio is lowballing him is just b.s." But IESB, the site which first reported on the Marvel-Favreau dust-up (followed by Ain't It Cool News), counters that Marvel only made the offer to Favreau after the online brouhaha began. They cite as evidence the fact that Favreau himself said on June 9th that he hadn't heard from Marvel about the sequel in five weeks.

They better pay the fucking man. Iron Man was amazing and if they didn't bring back everyone involved then the second one would most likely suck a giant penis.
I am glad they are now negotiating.

Mavel has a history.....
Marvel has a history of disgarding and treating talent like shit; just ask Jack Kirby or Steve Ditko.

Although he has not yet been signed to direct the sequel, Iron Man director Jon Favreau has been blogging who fans might expect to see menace Shellhead in Iron Man 2. In a posting at his MySpace blog, Favreau revealed that "The Mandarin is Iron Man's nemesis and will be incorporated in the sequel. It's true that I am apprehensive about how he is to be presented. In the tech based modern world that we created for (Iron Man), a Fu Manchu style villain with magical/alien tech rings would seem out of place." Favreau added, "There were early drafts of (Iron Man) where the Mandarin was the main villain, so we've already explored the character to some extent. I am curious to see how he has been treated in his latest books and how that might influence our direction." He also said, "I've already mentioned War Machine and Mandarin. I have some ideas, but I really need to sit down with Downey and the Marvel guys before we say much more." And when asked about the chances of Obadiah Stane returning (SPOILER ALERT) despite his apparent death at the end of the first film, Favreau quipped, "Stane's death? Do characters ever really die in Marvel? Isn't it like a soap opera?" When asked about the report that claimed the Hulk might pop up in Iron Man 2 (just as Tony Stark did in The Incredible Hulk), Favreau replied, "There are no plans to do so."

im glad to see they appear to be back on track with Favreau. too too many movies are getting sequals that are little more than testing projects for inadequate and inexperienced directors. Like oh, say... the hills have eyes, 28 days later (i liked 28 weeks later, a lot, but that was definitly not a danny boyle movie), hell even robocop.
