Pretty terrible... Probably married off to a much older guy that thought it was his place to run her life completely. This is some terrible shit, and I wish that the world would grow as a whole to stop things like this from occurring...not to be racist at all, but sometimes when I see things like this, the thought "Catch up Already" occurs. I hope the guy gets the maximum penalty. What a trooper though, that driven in becoming educated that even while healing she's teaching herself to use the other hand, gotta respect that greatly.
