Dude is okay in moderation.
"hey, dude." "Dude?" "Dude, that sucks." all acceptable. when they use "dude" instead of your name on a regular basis, that is bad. A habit i cant stand, people who use "You know" like a punctuation mark....

i never got to know him quite well enough to know if that would offend him, but i doubt it would. he's really laid back.
