LAND OF THE DEAD (2005). I like this, but it just doesn't resonate with Me like NIGHT, DAWN (those two will forever be in my Top 10) and DAY. It reminds Me a lot of the STAR WARS where the first three films are the keepers...the ground breaking premiere, the "Epic" sequel and a somewhat misunderstood third film, requiring a couple of viewings to get it. My wife loves Episodes 4-6, but has no patience with anything else after that. Nostalgia may play a factor or also less responsibilities.
Was very pleased when I heard George was making another Zombie film after the success of 28 DAYS LATER, DAWN OF THE DEAD reboot and SHAUN OF THE DEAD actually got him into a major studio (Universal) and some decent $$ (believe 15-20 million??).
To be honest, George was a Maverick and I enjoy the films where He didn't have a huge budget or big crew...this truly has "Too Many Cooks" and the same premise is pulled out where "The Dead walk and Man is his own worst enemy". Add to a cast of better known actors (certainly more known than the first three) and it doesn't resonate as much with Me. I even enjoyed Tom Savini's lower grade effects from earlier more than Nicotero's more advanced techniques, although Greg does pull off some good ones here. Still worth seeing and a oddly subdued Dennis Hooper (doing a Donald Rumsfeld?) is great here, especially when He bellows "You have NO RIGHT!" ***
