I don't understand that at all. People I've known who saw the remake first and saw the original afterwards either loved both or preferred the original.

I'm basing it on people I know so I guess it could be just people in the UK who have that opinion. It's sad really but not as sad as the people who think the remakes are the original films...

Finally proofread the entire 250, removed some sequel/remake entries and the more-popular-yet-not-good-enough-to-recommend ones, and added a whole lot of good-sounding-but-rarely-viewed recommendations which had been sent through PMs to me throughout the past month and half, plus some which I thought should be a part of the Sticky but were glaringly omitted/forgotten.

Please go through the Sticky again -

http://www.horror.com/forum/showthread.php?t=57683

I think this should stand the test of time for awhile.

Many thanks to everyone who PMed me their choices, and specially the ones who posted them in the "HDC Recommends..." thread in the Modern Horror section.

I hope most of you agree with the majority of the recs.

This is a lot better-the only ones I object to are-

Blade 2
Eight Legged Freaks
The Hills Have Eyes Remake
The Toolbox Murders Remake
The Ring
Halloween remake

which I would replace with
Salvage (2009)
Bad Biology (2008)
Dark Corners (2006)
Donkey Punch (2008)
Ghost Ship (2002)
Dogtooth (2009)
Kontroll (2003)
The Piano Teacher (2001)
Mortuary (2005)
Taxidermia (2006)
What Lies Beneath (2000)
The Machinist (2004)

I'm not going to push you into changing the list yet again, but I will say I am unhappy about the absence of:

The Human Centipede
Hostel
The Skeleton Key

and I'm quite shocked that Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance got the axe.

Quality and recommendable horror? That's what at least 5 others who PMed me questioned about those selections.

It's veracity as a horror film was questioned repeatedly. Ergo, it stands omitted.

The first editing was good enough, IMO. We had sufficient amount of time to give the inputs of our recommendations. We don't need to butcher it every time we got a complain or suggestion note after the final compilation posted. Anyway...there's no list that can make everyone happy with the same level of satisfaction.

That's how I felt. I wouldn't request that the list be changed.
