Well, there are several reasons.

For me, it started with a love of monsters. Always liked them, always will. Movies like Creature From the Black Lagoon & Clash of the Titans are some of my fondest childhood memories.

Some people want to be shocked and/or scared. Some want to see how far they can push their personal boundaries, or to find out where their limits lay.

It's also always fun to root for the underdog. Horror/Explotation (along with porn) has always been the black sheep of the cinema family.

Yep. Clash of the Titans and similar film like Jason and the Argonauts plus Sinbad, I loved when I was a kid. I guess that transcended to horror films later on for me, keeping with the fantasy vibe. I guess horror is like a grusome fairy tale for adults. We like to be thrilled and to see people overcome out of this world challenges.

i like seeing people use their imaginations - and the extreme genres show a pretty extreme imagination (for the good films)

I also like to see my imagination being adapted on film if it happens to coincide with the filmmaker - which it often does.

i like special effects - i like the outrageousness of horror -
i like escaping into a world - for a couple of hours - where the impossible is possible.

probably a good outlet - better than the people walking around with the fantasy lives running 24/7 in their heads.
