I saw the 1982 play of Sweeney Todd (on DVD) and LOVED it. It's got very well made story that includes comedy, horror, a bit of action, tragedy... unfortunately romance... *shudder* It really is an entertaining story, and I hope Tim Burton does a good job on it.
Normally I don't like musicals much, but I believe this particular one was marvelous. Very well written and beautiful. The music always has a chilling feeling to it, even in times of joy. The lyrics are really well written, and the singing is complicated and wonderful to listen to. As for the composer, it is going to be Stephen Sondheim. The movie is based on his play, and Tim Burton thinks it would be best to have him compose. He says it's a misuse of Elfman's talents anyway, making him recreate something like this... BTW I'm new.
