They needed a whole new cast for a proper sequel. Having these women survive the first movie is stupid. I'm still kind of interested though...

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has officially announced The Descent: Part 2 for the 27th of April.

DVD Active reports that retail will be around $28.98.

Extras will include audio commentary with director Jon Harris and actors Shauna MacDonald, Krysten Cummings and Anna Skellern, deleted scenes, a Making of The Descent: Part 2: Deeper and Darker featurette, and storyboards.

"Dazed, bloodied and speechless with trauma, Sarah Carter emerges alone from the Appalachian cave system where the events of THE DESCENT took place. Local sheriff Redmond Vaines forces her back underground to help the rescue team which is desperately searching for her five missing girlfriends. AS the team moves deeper into the caves, Sarah's flashes of fractured memory intensify and she begins to realizes the full horror of the would-be rescue mission. Only Sarah knows the terror which lurks in the shadows of the caves. But they are about to encounter a new tribe of crawlers, inbred, deformed and even more viciously feral than those Sarah faced before."

The mysterious ending to The Descent is what made it that much better. We didn't know if she survived and escaped the caverns, was killed by the monsters, or if she simply went mad and fell comatose or what not. I even read discussions about how there may have not been any monsters in the caves at all, but instead the women just went mad and killed each other off.

Either way a sequel is a terrible idea.

A sequel would only work with the American non-lethal ending, so yeah. Wonder who thought it would work in the U.K. and the rest of the world. I for one didn't get an open ending, or if I did I really didn't see it as such.
There has to be another way to milk the original without making a '2'.
