I'll respond as a new mod.

For those of you who didn't vote/weren't around/didn't care to get involved for whatever reasons, we had a moderator election.

__V__, neverending and myself were elected to the mod board, which essentially leaves us with six moderators. Officially there are eight, but only five on paper, which can get a might bit confusing.

The listed five main mods are, and have been for a while, are:

Allmykids, kpropain, bloodrayne, Austin and zwoti.

Out of these, Allmykids lost the password to her mod account long ago and as far as I know, hasn't been around for awhile. This essentially eliminates her as a mod. Kpro, for one reason or another, is rarely around.

As far as I know (I hope, anyway) the three of us were elected to ease the burden of the new systems filtration (spamalot) problems based on a few factors:

1.) Board frequency
2.) Trust of fairness
3.) Communication skills
4.) Awesome hairdos

Okay, I made one of those up. It's most likely the trust one.

The six of us do the best possible to meet and communicate on decisions. It becomes hard when most of us are in different timezones and two of us are in different countries. I think NE and I are the only ones with the same time schedule.

As far as the decisions that have been made over the last couple of days that have caused all of the ruckus, there are more than two sides to every story. Not all of us are vocal in what we do, and not all of us are there when critical decisions need be made. All I can say is that we do the best we think we can do to continue the existence of HDC with the vague rules that Horror has laid out for us. We don't exactly have great communication with him (Doc Faustus song should follow shortly) and we've kind of been left alone to try to make the best of a situation. Sometimes it can get ugly.

All that being said, anyone who wants to pm or email me are perfectly welcome. I'll answer any questions or concerns to the best of my ability.

Thank you for your time,
-Rikki (Flayed)

Good thread Cheebs....and nice response Flayed. I would like to see ALL the mods chime in here......just to keep the peace. I'm not really sure what went on.......kinda bits & pieces. Apparently threads got locked and threads got deleted.

As far as the NEW mods......my hats off to you for taking the mod responsibility.....no easy task fer sure. I have no problems with any of the new mods....in fact I voted for all of them.

I'm also seeing some real nitpicking and crybaby antics from some of our beloved regulars. Lighten up all.....its just a forum.

it seems to me - and i'm not trying to continue the controversy here - that when two long-time members are having a disagreement or even a series of snide comments that these should be allowed until such time as they get really over-the-top or personal or hate-filled. now if it is some noobie who is starting crap everywhere, then whack-em, or if someone really goes beyond the pale (racism, sexism, etc.) then whack-em, or if someone is beign sexually creepy (and we all know who i'm thinking of here) then whack-em.

but if everytime a couple of us old-timers get cranky with each other the mods pop in and delete threads, then it is going to be seen s a bit oppressive.

ok - i've had my say - and i'm not trying to be critical of individual mods or volunteering to do the job (I understand it must be thankless and painful).

Question for Moderators

Last night I logged in to post my selection on the Five Best Songs thread and since no one had posted since my previous post to ferretchucker I decided to edit it so I wouldn't have two superimposed posts. I've edited posts before and all I ever did was click the save button and it worked just fine. Last night when I "saved" I got a window saying I didn't have the right to do what I just did and that I needed to refresh the page and log in again which to me was crazy since I was already loggen in -- it said so at the top of the page. So I did as instructed and lost an hours worth of work. I thought because I was flipping back and forth with my dictionary (the spell-checker on my toolbar doesn't work) I some how logged out even though the top of the page still said I was logged in. So I rewrote the whole thing without checking my dictionary, clicked the save button and the same stupid thing happened again. Growing madder by the nanosecond I noticed the edit button was still on the screen so I clicked that, was instructed to log in again (which I find infuriating because I WAS ALREADY LOGGED IN) and once I did, wha-la it worked.

To make a short story as long as possible, why was I continually told to refresh the page (thereby losing all my work) and log in again when I was already logged in? Can someone explain this to me so I can understand it? I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

I just now posted the above (having logged in) and was told to log in again. What is going on?

You were timed out.

You went beyond the maximum time you can take to make a post. That will log you out automatically and when you want to post your reply, you will need to re-login.

In future, to avoid getting timed out, keep hitting the "Preview Post" button in 5 minute intervals.

I was pretty happy with the mods we chose. One of them I wasn't sure about for one reason, but I think he's since proved that my concerns were misplaced. I don't know if we should have a whole new mod election because of how long it would take, with Horror never being around, but if it were possible to do easily, then I think it should be done. Not because I think any of the mods should be changed, but I think it would satisfy the people here more, as it would be much more accurate.
