I really liked the first three, but the fourth was actually pretty stupid. Personally, I liked the third better than the second, but the first was the best in the series. I like these movies, in general, because sound-based supernatural horror films tend to scare me. As I mentioned, despite being terrible, the fourth one did scare me just because of the subject and the sound-based horror. It was nowhere near as scary as any of the other three though.

I definitely agree the first was much better than the second. The third was actually pretty good and far superior to the second as well. The fourth made the second look like a masterpiece. Additionally, I agree Paranormal Activity should have been a standalone, but it was the most successful film of all time and was made by a major studio. So, there was no way that there weren't going to make sequel(s).
