If a 'horror' movie doesn't have good gore, then it had better make up for it by being especially cool in another department. It doesn't have to have gore, but it sure makes it easier for me to like them.



Speaking of gore, I'm about to watch Starship Troppers 2. I haven't seen it yet, but the first was one of the most pleasently surprising movies I've ever seen! I went in to it thinking 'Starship Troppers? What a stupid fucking name.' It reminded me of Might Morphin Power Rangers or something. But after seeing it, I decided that movie kicked serious ass! If you haven't seen it, go do so right now.

I'll let you know how part 2 is after I'm done. Okay, I gotta go, it's starting.

If they think the movie was really good, but it didn't have enough gore so they hate it, then that's kind of lame. If they can say "It didn't have enough gore and the soundtrack was terrible (or the lead female was a horrible actress or the plot was lame or something else.) then it's acceptable.

Disliking a great movie simply because it lacks 'enough' gore would be dumb. If this has become a frequent trend or a problem any of you has noticed in yourselves, I suggest you mention it to a psychiatrist. You might have issues...

Those people are stupid. They shouldn't be watching a horror movie and then be getting upset that there is violence and death in it.

And THERE'S my problem. If gore is a reason someone likes a horror movie, then it's equally reasonable for gore being a reason someone dislikes a movie. Horror movies don't require gore, so someone can like horror movies but dislike gore.

They can if they want to, but that would be pretty stupid of them. Like saying you are a fan of comedys, but you don't like jokes or being really into romance movies, but hating to see people kiss.

Really good cheesy gore can make an otherwise terrible movie entertaining and watchable. But saying you love a genre that consists of about 80% something you don't like seems kind of dumb. Of course, there are plenty of people out there that are less than smart so it wouldn't surprise me at all if there is people like this.

No, it's more like liking comedies but disliking slapstick humor or liking romantic movies but hating chick flicks (there is a difference). If you like horror movies but don't like being scared, then that's stupid. But liking horror movies but disliking gore is perfectly reasonable, because there's a large percentage (a lot bigger than 20%) of horror movies that aren't gorey. Psychological horror movies aren't gorey, supernatural horror movies, for the most part, aren't gorey, there are even slasher movies that aren't gorey (Halloween and TCM, although I personally don't count TCM as a slasher, it gets lumped in with them). So it's perfectly reasonable to like horror but not like gore. It's just as reasonable as liking gore.
