My Bloody Valentine (remake)

I enjoyed the first quarter or so of this one but it really turns into a shitfest. The Friday The 13th remake totally kills this one. Predictable, classless and disappointing with a really ratshit cast of washed up teen soap opera stars. The big studios really need to pick up their game when it comes to horror because this crap doesn't cut it.

On a positive not it was cool to see Tom Atkins in a film again.

Cant believe the same man, Neil Marshall, did the brilliant Dog Soldiers and Descent. Not his finest hour.
Agree with you totally on that one awful flick that I expected a lot more from. Gimme the 80s Italian knockoffs anyday over shit like that and the Death Race remake.

Star Trek - *spoilers*

There are a few major problems with this movie completely excluding the continuity errors from the series (which I looked past because it's a "re envisioning," but more on that later). The first and most glaring is the black hole logic that is essential to the story line. It makes absolutely no sense. I won't go into to detail but it bugged me. The "red matter." That's it really, I mean what is it and how can a drop form a black hole that engulfs a planet but not engulf the Enterprise and that Romulan mining vessel when the gigantic ball is released? The last thing is the mining vessel, everything about it. The interior design makes no sense and why do that have that slug? Does every Romulan mining crew have them on hand just in case? I could go on and on... There is one good thing though, I thought the casting was pretty good. All that being said they do offer an explanation as to the the many many many continuity errors from the series that being that it's supposed to be an alternate reality which old Spock states when they are in the cave. Which includes Vulcan being destroyed, Romulis? being destroyed, and the Spock and Uhura love interest(which I hated) Oh one thing I forgot to mention is the Spock and Kirk(what was with the Beastie Boys?) as kids segments sucked. Thanks for reading my incoherent ramble.
*End Spoliers*
After all my bitching though there was a part of me that enjoyed it so I give it a 2.5 out of 5. Worth a watch I suppose just for the visuals but don't get your hopes up.

Star Trek

fucking great. awesome. sweet. loved it.

Seriously the most entertained I have been at the theater in ages. So much fun. It was an alternate time line but the time travel was well thought out and well explained. It stuck to canon. I had the best time because the whole theater was full of Trekkies (except for one girl who exclaimed too loudly on her way out that she had just wasted 2 hours being bored and it was all her bf's fault. I turned around and told her to stop being such a bitch. :D) People clapped whenever there was a catch phrase from the series, and especially when Leonard Nimoy showed up.

The sound effects were same or similar to the ones in the series, and the soundtrack was very similar to the original music. The opening dialog from the series "to boldly go etc." at the end was perfect.

The characters were all pretty great too. I thought they would screw up Kirk but they didn't. This new guy is no Shatner, but the way they wrote his dialog made him out to still be a badass who sleep with alien women. Spock was great but I thought he showed a bit too much emotion. Sulu wasn't really in it too much, but he had a pretty kick ass fight scene. Chekov was amazing! This kid had quite the accent but did great, and Bones had his speech patterns down pat. Then there's Scottie. Simon Pegg was sooo good.

I loved it so much. Go see it, Trekkie or not. You won't be bored.

I think they fixed the continuity errors just fine. This is Trek, where impossible things happen every day because they haven't happened yet. And as far as red matter: goes, I suppose if it is contained and not touching anything, then it is cool. Agreed about Spock/Uhura though.

Might have to make a trip to the cinema to check out Star Trek. Loved the original films so I'm looking forward to seeing a modern take on it all.

i liked it witha few exceptions :

1) the need to spell out the significance of the ending with a voiceover
i hate it when a decent film needs to pander to stupid people.

2) what the hell is wrong with rene zwelliger ? from the first frame to the last it looked like her face was going to explode .. like she ate a barrel full of whatever it is she's the most allergic to.

seriously - is there something wrong with her ?

Laid to Rest

loved it. i'm not a fan of slashers - but this one was fun. crazy gore, it avoided a lot of the slasher cliches i hate, and i didnt particularily have the problem R. Usher had with the dialogue. I found it refreshingly realistic ... in real life people dont recite brilliant dialogue .. especially under stress .. they can be nonsensical and disjointed at times ... i thought the dialogue was pretty accurate. nothing jumped out at me as being groan worthy.

last night just saw it too...:)

My Bloody Valentine 3D (2009)

It was just another cheesy, time passing slasher flick (and I love those:D ) only with some decent kills. Not a complete bad remake though, but after watching the original I too disappointed with the ending.

My Bloody Valentine (1981)

80's one of the finest Slasher gem.
