Fourteen Hours (1951)

A studio thriller which found a nice medium between heavy psychological case study and crows-pleasing popcorn entertainment. There's no time wasted on preliminaries- the story begins where it ends, on the high ledge of a hotel room hundreds of feet above New York City. The film boasts a superb supporting cast; a young Grace Kelly appears in a minor role and Paul Douglas provides a strong backbone as an average-Joe traffic cop thrown in the middle of a suicidal kid and the city sidewalks. Most impressive of all, however, is the always phenomenal Barbara Bel Geddes, an underrated actress best known for her shadow-support work in 'Vertgo'. She is the subtle essence of this film, a sweet, believable girl who doesn't know much about love or life but who tries her hardest to make things work anyway. Her heart-felt performance brings the picture together, emotionally, and casts a terrifying innocence on her lover's death wish. The film is slow-moving, and at times the man on the ledge (Richard Basehart) seems frustratingly thick-headed, but strong back-up characters keep the story engaging, and an acrophobic art design keep things tense.

The Haunting of Sorority Row AKA The Deadly Pledge (2007)

Predictable ghost story (made for TV) about revenge from beyond the grave that creates havoc in a collage sorority house. Pretty mediocre but not too bad.

Candy Stripers

A group of hospital nurses are taken over by aliens and, using their feminine wiles, lure unsuspecting patients and co-workers to their doom! Only a hospitalized basketball player and his friends can stop them.
I'll generously call this enjoyable nonsense.

- Body Heat .. 1st time revisiting this modern noir classic in a long time ... great film ... almost stolen out from under the leads by a very young mickey rourke.

- three Men and a Baby ... say what you will - the baby was incredibly cute and made this dated pedestrian film work far better than it should have.

Very cool movie. John Cusack is pretty near the top of his game in this one, and the supporting cast is stellar - Alan Arkin, Dan Aykroyd, Minnie Driver, Jeremy Piven, Hank Azaria...everyone is perfect in their roles.

Any fans of dark comedy that haven't already seen this owe it to themselves to do so...great cast working from a dark and snappy script with some fantastic dialogue. I really enjoyed it.

The hitcher
liked this a good deal, Rutger Hauer was intense.

Caught the Incredible Hulk again, not nearly as cool on a 20 inch than in the theatres.

Very good film, quality performances and genuinely tense. A little time is spent developing the characters which makes all the difference when the shit hits the fan. The pace of the movie was spot on and I think the younger actors involved deserve a mention for their respective portrayals, all very realistic yobbos! However I do have a complaint..................................

**************SPOILER*********************

They've made the effort to make this as realistic as possible, putting our two characters in a horrific situation at the hands of the teenagers. The build up to the torture and how Brett bullies and threatens the others into helping him is powerful and perfectly feasible. The way he so casually burns the young boy alive was a bit of a stretch, almost a throw away shock moment, but ok I'll go along with it.
The problem is the end. When Jenny stumbles into the middle of the party, it not only just happens to be Bretts family house, but out of all the people there not one single person thought to call the police or ambulance? When Bretts family decide to kill Jenny only one person questions it before a quick shrug of the shoulders and acceptance, no-one tries to stop it???? It was way too much of a stretch to accept that. It left a sour taste which was a shame.

*************END OF SPOILER*****************

Other than that, it was excellent! Go see
