Yes, but they're steadily being replaced by CGI.

in all seriousness .... the money is the largest factor ..
the wranglers, SPCA involvement, insurance rates go up, and the actors - even minor ones - have to be paid more for being in 'potentially dangerous situations'

there's a scale for things like that .. sort of danger pay - and it involves things as silly as stepping out of a boat, etc ..

They say that soon even actors will all become CGI, and that'll save Hollywood even more money.

It's an increasingly less preposterous idea.

I had an idea on how they could replicate the theater atmosphere, since without the crowd, the movie loses a bit of its charm (speaking from experience, having seen it twice in two days, once with the awesome crowd and once with a crowd that would be perfectly fine for any movie besides SOAP), they should do what they did for the Sin City SE. Have a seperate audio track with audience reactions from the premiere.

they made a movie about that 25 years ago

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082677/

but - yeah undeniably it comes down to

1) money

2) create something otherwise impossible

I'll take CGI dinosaurs over stop motion anyday - no matter how much work is involved in the stop-mo.

I love stop-motion animation a la Harryhausen style :D

Anyways, SOAP was WAY better than I had anticipated, the deaths, the T & A, the vicious tramplings, the wicked catch phrase, "I've had it with these Mother****ing snakes on this Mother****ing plane!!"....all ingredients for an awesomely cheese filled "when animals attack" flick.

I can't wait for the DVD....hopefully, it'll be chaulked full of extras.

Is The American Theatre Crowd really the whooping, cheering, slightly-in-need-of-Valium collective the rest of the world have watched on TV with some bewilderment?

soap was amazing and the cgi snakes didn't bother me. plus like people have been saying, cgi is the easiest way to make your snakes do stuff.
