Isolation (2004). This sticky little nasty takes a Holstein and makes it scary, quite an accomplishment. The farm atmosphere was pleasantly realistic, with mud everywhere and the requisite preg check an icky affair for those not accustomed. While the characters were left flat, this one was about pacing and a building sense of tension. The story was sparce and only gave enough info to keep us intrigued but wonderfully confused as to what could have possibly gone so wrong. While the POV camera work likely annoyed some, it was more than enjoyable to this viewer. The nasty itself was a mess of a creature, a wonderfully slimy affair made sans CGI. Overall this was a an enjoyable entry to the horror genre. Late.

Kenny

A quality mock documentary from Australia about Kenny a port-a-loo plumber. A film crew follows Kenny around as he goes about his daily business which includes supplying toilets for outdoor festivals, motor races and the Melbourne Cup. The highlight being Kenny's first ever trip abroad to a 'Cleaners and Pumpers' convention in the US.

I really enjoyed this film. Kenny is an honest, genuine, friendly and overall great bloke with the patience of a saint as he copes with rude customers looking down on him and his job, an ex-wife from hell and an ill father who cant stop pointing out Kenny's lack of ambition and under achievements.

There is a great flow of quality one liners from Kenny which will have you laughing along regularly as he brings his honest, matter of fact views on life to whatever moment he finds himself in. Very good film, try to catch it.

Dr. Strangelove (1964). Stanley Kubrick has indeed performed a miracle here by capturing the tragic absurdity of human nature in the form of cinematic satire. What is amazing is the temerity engendered in making fun of one of the most feared subjects ever conceived by mankind. The story was wonderful, but it was the acting that made it so. Peter Sellers kills his three parts, George C. Scott delivers an over-the-top performance accentuated with facial expressions that are hilarious. Sterling Hayden’s role was a piece of serious hilarity. And Slim Picken’s role was fantastic, with one on the most memorable scenes in film history. Let us not forget the eye gracing beauty of Tracy Reed as Ms. Foreign Affairs. Everything about this movie was simply perfect, an explosive classic that will never go out of style. Ashe.

A Clockwork Orange (again)

Saw this classic again. Its still ahead of its time. Between the classical music to Tangerine Dream, the ultraviolence and the "enriched" milk, this movie cant be beat.

The Night Strangler (1973). The perfect sequel to The Night Stalker, this one somehow parallels the basic architecture to the first while remaining fresh if not unique. The humor is perfectly balanced with its creepy tone. The solid story coupled with a redoubtable cast elevates this wonderful flick out of the realms of your typical made-for-television slush movies. Of course, it is the strong character of Darren McGavin that pulls up the pants of The Night Strangler, a bulldog of a reporter whose intuition and intelligence are forever eclipsed by his curiosity, believably leading him to enter worlds best left unentered. With an ending shot in an incredibly eerie set, it seems likely that our hero has run out of ink. Merci beaucoup.

Paranormal Activity: First watch, thought it was pretty good. Squeezes every ounce of tension out of simple effects. Plenty of scares generated from simple sound and lighting, placing the emphasis on the unseen rather than seen. Didn't care much for the tedious relationship sterotyping though.
