It's mostly categorized by low-budget and free-form/ad-libbed ("naturalistic" according to Wikipedia) dialogue and the plot is typically character driven.

You have Netflix, right? Have you seen Safety Not Guaranteed yet? It's sooooo good.

I do have Netflix! No, I haven't seen that yet. I'll add it to the queue!

BTW, speaking of Netflix gems, season 2 of House of Cards will be up next month! Can't wait! I thought Kevin Spacey was brilliant in this show.

Recently watched on Netflix (All for the first time);

Bernie: Based on a true life story about a mortician/ funeral director who begins a relationship with an older widow in his community and ends up murdering her.... Perfect little black comedy with some strong acting performances. Jack Black, Shirley Maclaine and Matthew McConaughey were all excellent. No idea how true to life this story is, but the movie is well worth a watch.

The Perfect Host: Any fans of David Hyde Pierce need to give this one a watch. The plot coincidences and twist are utterly ridiculous, but the acting is great and overshadows a pretty weak plot. Watch it if you're a fan of David Hyde Pierce or want to pass some time with something different. Not great, but I really enjoyed it.

Olympus has Fallen: Die hard in the White House.... Pretty much what you would expect. Not too bad as an action flick, but lacking the tongue in cheek humour and all out action of something like Die Hard. Takes itself a bit too seriously for my tastes.

The Perfect Host was a great little surprise! David Hyde Pierce was a lot of fun to watch too.

I like the form mumblecore, by the description "free-form, ad-libbed, naturalistic". Some has said that parts of Alien was free-form ad-libbed. It sure seemed like much of it was. Made a it a much better film.

I heard Fishing with Gandhi was partially mumblecore. Brothers wrote and starred in it. They have long dialogue scenes that make the movie.

Any one know of any more recent films that are confirmed mumblecore?
