'Pale Rider' (1985)
-Clint Eastwood

Plot: mysterious stranger protects a small prospectors village from a greedy mining company

Phantoms Review: I love this film. Eastwood's next to last western and his last turn as a "man with no name". While it's basically a 'Shane' remake, Eastwood makes it his own with his cool, calm and possibly supernatural"Preacher" . Great traditional western action, fine acting and some magnificent cinematography make this one of the last great westerns.

Raiders Of The Living Dead (1986) 5/10
A newspaper reporter hears of strange goings-on on a remote island. He travels there and finds that a mad scientist lives there and he is creating zombies.

I remember renting that out on VHS back in the day - boy was it bad.

Sounds like that cannibal film that has no cannibals in it, but zombies instead, the one where that bloke famously mangles that zombies head with a boats motor btw pale rider is lame in the extreme, a boring western that, as I can remember, ripped off his earlier film high plains drifter, which actually was a good film

Are you talking about Cannibal Holocaust/Doctor Butcher MD - that is a fantastic film.

"No Retreat, No Surrender: Blood Brothers" 8/10

One of my old favorites. Lots of cheese, great fights and an awsome bad guy.

"Los Angeles Streetfighter" 2/10

Like the one above this is a cult martial arts movie. But why???

It gets 2 out of 10 for Phillip Rhee and Jun Chong. I'm sure they did a lot of great stuff in this flick. Too bad you couldn't see most of it..

It's still a classic but, in this viewing, I was struck at how rooted in Psycho [1960] Friday the 13th is.

It starts giving you hints with a score that openly echoes the shower scene. Midway through there is the slapped hanging light, and throughout there is the giant knife motif.

At the end is a clear juxtapositioning of Norman and his mother. In FT13 the "psycho" mom voices her dead son's wishes egging her to more guilt-induced murders (including one by a shower).

Even Jason being under the lake mimics Mrs Bates being in the basement "under" the house. Jason's mother resents the love-making counselors & Norman's "mother" resents his sexual attractions; it really does go on.

I think it still holds up 34 years later & it's always hilarious to see a young Kevin Bacon.

Friday The 13th: part 3 to 7
I think my favorite was part 5.
With crazy Tommy in the halfway house and an ending that didn't make any sense.

The Prowler
Started out alright, not really bad but I still got bored pretty fast.

No way - I'm trying to do a haphazard marathon of the whole series before June 13th (Friday) of this year. I'll be watching FT13 pt 2 tonight.
