i used to love the books ... but i recently tried to read them again and - for me - i guess there's no going home again. i think simplicity was the problem ... and you're right as far as how they would have to trim even a simple story to make it fit into the timeframe of a film ... but i have to say - i like kiddie lit - i've been reading a lot of it lately - screening books to see what my kid is ready for or not - and i have to say - youth fiction has come a long way. far more interesting and imaginitive than a lot of what came before. a short while ago i read the 1st 3 narnia books intending to reread the series - but half way through A Horse and his Boy (or whatever it's called) i completely lost interest. (i used to recommend these books to everyone !) |

Actually, I do. That's that only way I can stand to do it. That and I work with some really funny people. You have to have a good sense of humor to work in I.T., trust me.

Have you tried the Taran books by Lloyd Alexander? Also old, but I love the first 2 books. Especially the second. I've always mentioned them as Lord Of The Rings for children. :)

Good to hear you at least don't work all alone. That would be downright depressing. If you ask me.

I remember starting that series in the 5th grade (10 years old) and it was one of the factors that got me into fantasy and fostered my love of reading. Before them I read nothing bigger that Encyclopedia Brown and Choose your Own Adventure books . After the Taran series I jumped straight to Poe.
