The first Van Damme movie I ever saw was Bloodsport. It's Van Damme kicking serious ass without any plot to get in the way.
Fuck yeh!! Bloodsport is a great movie! That bit with the bone busting outta that guys leg is messed up.

Masters of the Universe 2 became Cyborg because whatever company it was that released them (Cannon, I think) had a contract to make a movie somewhere down the line with Van Damme but was more concerned with the Masters sequel because Van Damme was a nobody and Masters had at least name recognition. Then Bloodsport comes out and Van Damme's a star, so they shut down Masters 2 in pre-production and come up with a script for Van Damme utilizing the sets and costumes they already put together for Masters 2.

They also released a really, really bad movie tie-in comic (I have the first issue, because it was free. You had to order two thru four).

The only Van Damme movie I liked was Universal Soldier, because Dolph is the shit. Cyborg 2 (without Van Damme) was cool because it was the first place I remember seeing and taking note of Angelina Jolie (before she became Miss Hollywood and started making crap).

My all-time #1 movie is... *drum roll*... Andrei Tarkovsky's Stalker. A movie so absolutely brilliant, yet so slow I can never get anyone to sit down and watch it all the way through. Their loss.
:-)

I also love:

Pi
Ichi the Killer
Tetsuo: The Iron Man
Clockwork Orange
Spirited Away
Indiana Jones trilogy
original Star Wars trilogy
Labyrinth

... Eh, my mind is blanking out. More to be added as I remember, I'm sure.

a hell yea shout out to you, 'stalker' is AMAZING! tarkovsky is definitely some kind of demi-god, if not the real thing. the slow panning scene with the stream and all the colored artifacts at the bottom, or the girl at the end of the movie sitting by the table! some of it just takes your breath away. have you seen 'solaris' or 'andrei rublev'? hehee if you thought stalker was slow, andrei pushes it! awesome movies

'spirited away' was pretty great too, once i got over the annoyance of ichiro.
