It's a great movie but honestly, it's far from perfect. There can't be a perfect film in my opinion, a perfect film would eliminate the need for any other movies in that, or any other genre.

Sorry, but even John Carpenter would laugh pretty hard if you called Halloween almost perfection. He didn't even want to direct the second one even though he wrote it.

I liked it, probably my favorite slasher movie. Saying it's pretty much impossible to improve upon is just a little too much.

Can you explain why Halloween is "almost perfection" with actual reasons?

also: no resorting to stupidity/name calling please

Well thats how i feel,of course everyone has their own opinion, but i do believe without Halloween the horror landscape would be a rather different one to the one we have today. I stand by what i said about perfection because i have yet to see a more effective slasher. And as for Carpenter, Well he has made more poor career choices than good ones imo.Did i just get my first flaming?

no, it wasn't flaming. :) Most people here think Halloween is one of the best movies ever too.

You feel that it's almost perfection? not an actual reason for it being almost perfection.

You've never seen a more effective slasher? still not an actual reason for it being almost perfection.

I'll rephrase my question:

What makes Halloween so great that it can't be improved upon? I think being a slasher movie already means it could be improved on greatly by being remade without abiding by the rules of the mindless slasher. Which is what I thought Rob Zombie was going to do with his version, not that I think his will be better but I'm hoping it will be different (it seems everyone is angry because it's not going to be the same)

I don't think you were flamed, I just think that the validity of you calling Halloween "perfect" was challenged. Maybe you wouldn't remake it because you feel it's perfect but apparently other people believe there's more they can add. I doubt Zombie feels that he's making a "better" movie but I don't think everybody remakes a film thinking it will be better. Sometimes they just want to put their energy and their thoughts into it, not try and improve it.

I don't think "Halloween" is that great!

When I'm in the mood for a slasher... I need to see the RED STUFF.

Halloween is a bloodless slasher!

Blimey your making this tough.:)
Ok didn't say it couldn't be improved upon just difficult.
To me no other movie in the slasher genre has been as effective at creating a truly heavy atmosphere and such knife edge tension.I find Michaels presence more malevolent and purely evil than any other character in the genre. The score is simple yet chilling. It just floats my boat!its just an opinion.
Nice to meet you though.P.S i don't do name calling that would be rude.

I agree that no other movie in the slasher genre has been as effective, Michael Myers is my favorite "monster" The Halloween themesong is my favorite horror theme aswell, but.... I wouldn't say it's almost perfection. My thing is, what's the point of a remake if you're going to copy the movie exactly except using new actors who the fans hate anyway because they're not the characters they've come to love. Wouldn't it be in everyone's best interest for Rob Zombie to go ahead and make the movie as different as possible and maybe make a really great movie, instead of a second rate copy of the original?

Besides, even if it is the best movie ever you can take solace in the fact that every single Halloween fan is still going to insist that the original was better. :p

Nice to meet you too. :)

wow, i might a pretty thought provoking thread (for once). Change I can deal with but destruction and rebuilding with only afew of the original building blocks seems a bit too much. There's nothing we cando about it but I personally would sleep better if he either changed the names to make it his own or just didn't make it. Why try and remake a cake if you've already got a perfectly good one that was just right. It seems as though he came up with some ideas, didn't think they'd be recognised so he put those idea onto a great story to boost it. If john caprenter were dead, he'd be turning in his satanic, legendary grave.
