THE OFFICIAL HDC TOP 200 HORROR FILMS OF THE 00s

Yes, you read that right, folks.

Since the inception of this forum, we have had several threads and new members asking if horror was well and truly on the decline. "Modern horror sucks" was basically the theme of almost every third new thread posted in our forums.

And many a time, one or more of the knowledgeable members of HDC pointed out in those threads about the numerous fantastic films that the Y2K decade has produced. But still, the nagging doubt in the new horror fans remained.

We all know (well, at least most of us know) that we have had several fine examples of contemporary horror cinema which have become shining examples of the finest in horror film making in the past decade. The first part of the decade had them, and so did the second part.

And here comes the part about the groups.

We need 200 of the finest that the Noughties (the 00s, era from 2000-2009) have put out. I need both of you groups to put your collective thinking caps on and under the able guidance and assistance of your respective group leaders, make a list of recommendations for the newly formed horror fans out there to serve as a guide on viewing in modern horror.

100 from Zero's group. (plus 25 Honorable Mentions)

100 from Newb's group. (plus 25 Honorable Mentions)

Zero's group will handle the era from 2000-2004.

Newb's group will handle the era from 2005-2009.

(now you know why I regard this as a challenge!)

Please be reminded that you have to include those films whose release dates are between January 01st, 2000 and December 31st, 2009 ONLY. None earlier, none later.

And feel free to add any good foreign horror films in your lists. Send your PMs to your group leaders who will then collect them and arrange them in an alphabetical list, before sending them to me.

Group leaders - Zero and Newb - please see that the maximum number of members in your respective groups get involved in this huge compilation. The more members are involved, the more diversified choices we will have. I am counting on both of you to help me with this immense task.

So folks, I need the help and assistance of each and every one of you to make this successful. Lend a hand, and come together with me, as we make yet another part of HDC history.

Thank you, and good luck to all.

Sent an initial list to Zero (26 movies). I'll do some investigating and try to find more films.

Geez! You're quick!

I'm trying to get my head around this... Whether it makes sense for me to break up the movies into sub-genres to keep them organized.

Question for V et al: So sometimes there will be a discrepancy in IMDB between the date that they put in parenthasis after the movie title and the actual "Release Date" - As a rule, which do you go by?

In the example of Audition: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0235198/

In parenthesis, the date is 1999, but the "Release Date" is cited as '2000' - This confuses me.

Ooo - Ooo - Ooo - Team: If anyone is interested in doing this over Google Docs, let me know. Might be a good way to organize it.
