Fido
Has anyone seen this yet? Caught it on Friday night at my local theater. It's Canadian, so I'm not sure if it's in the US yet. Or even getting a theatrical release there anytime in the future. IF you ever get the chance to see this... do so. It was hilarious. I thought it was three times better then Shaun of the Dead, though I never got the whole "hype" surrounding THAT movie.

i love shaun of the dead....but ill totally check this new one out asap
|
This could be the most bizarre movie of the year.Carrie Ann Moss and Billy Connelly starring in a movie where corpses are re-animated by space dust and subsequently domesticated as living dead servents......
Heres a pic from the movie. http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...anne_moss2.jpg and another one. http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...pier/fido1.jpg |
It comes out in the US in June, I believe. So Canadians, go check it out NOW as it's in theatres. I really urge you all to check it out - it's quite good. See it in a theatre with a large crowd of genre fans. Great times all around.
Has anyone but myself seen this? |
I've heard of it and my boyfriend is dying to go and see it because he finds the trailer so damn funny...but I keep putting it off because for me meshing comedy and horror is the biggest no-no...I mean sarcastic comedy dripped throughout the movie is alright, but having enough comedy in there to render it slash genre isn't right.
But I probably will end up seeing it. xxFrostyxx |
I'm less worried about the comedy and more worried about it not being good. Usually I like independant movies and this one looks good but I fear it's just getting a lot of hype because it was played at Sundance.
|
Hmmm good point. If I'm going to go and see it at the movie's it has to be a really good movie. I like to get good value out of my dollars spent. This movie I think I can wait until its out on DVD, and then get friends to hire it out for me :P

I wouldn't really call the movie "horror" myself, but I guess it's an even split between Horror/Comedy technically. There are 0 scares, and the only thing related to horror are the fact that the world is inhabited by zombies, and a few gore scenes here and there. The entire thing is pure comedy (some might even argue Romance :p)
Don't worry - it IS good, or at least everyone who I know who has seen it thus far thinks it is. It's slightly in the vein of Snakes on a Plane, but not entirely. It's one of those movies that is filled with one-linears and is completely self-aware. It parodies pop-culture in some scenes, and nearly every line one person says can be taken about 9 different ways. So if you enjoy "corn", then check it out. If you like comedies, check it out. If you like movies like Evil Dead, Snakes on a Plane and Shaun of the Dead - definitely check it out. |
I want to see it in theathers, since I just got a new job/ quiting my old one, kinda put me into a bind money wise right, I when I get the money hopefully it's still in theaters

great movie and canadian. :D
|
Been waiting for it. :)
|
Watched it back when it premiered in Canada. March, was it? Really quite good 0 light-hearted satire, with a lot to say about the world.
|
Sorry to drag up an old thread, but I just got the chance to see this, and it wasn't bad. It feels like it came up just short of its premise, like it only capitalized on 80% of it, but the premise was so original and the film was so charming that I thought it was worth the watch anyway. If there is such a thing as an appropriate first date zombie movie, this is it.
|
Yeah it was very cute and enjoyable but it did fall a little short of its mark - tahts not to say its not a great film..
|
I rated this flick pretty highly when I saw it last year. Really decent spin on the zombie subgenre. Haven't given it a re-watch yet.
|
i watched last week actually
|
one of my favorites.
fell short of nothing s far as i'm concerned. did an amazing job on the retro look and feel where many higher budgeted films have failed. i thought this flick nailed everything it went after. |
i generally liked it - sort of disappointing in ways but overall pretty good (i kept wishing John Waters had directed it)
|
what did you think about "Fido"
The premise and setting had me going, but the main character was boring -- even for a zombie.
I got the black comedy satire of the fifties culture, in general, but it seemed to wander into a poke at the old 'Lassie' series or something? I lost interest after a while. I thought it was pretty interesting.
Not hugely funny. I liked the "reality" it was set in, bit like "Stubbs". Did not think Fido was the "main" character at all, I thought it was the boy. I found it watchable, I enjoyed the music and found it refreshing to have a zombie film without "hordes". I can see how it might not be for the zombie enthusiast everywhere, but, for me I strive to see different films of this type. |
I thought the film was hilarious. I know subtlety and nuance are lost on many in this day and age, but this film was very well crafted. Billy Connoly turned in a masterful performance, showing more humanity than many of the "human" characters.
