that was one of the first things i took note of while watching the movie. It's an extremely deep film. The movie was based around moral decisions, what a chracter is forced to decide when things get drastic.

**SPOILERS**
for example, Two Face avoided these decisions for some time by flipping a coin. Before his wife had died, he only had one outcome from his coinflip, the good one. but after his face was burnt, one side of the coin was burned....which also symbolizes what happened to his physical appearance. To make things even deeper, he went against his newly formed morals towards the end of the film, and shot batman when the coin told his otherwise. Deep shit.

Yeah, there were things that allowed you to question your morals and think about what you would do when confronted with a certain situation but there were larger moral issues raised that encompassed our entire society. A lot of people I've talked to didn't like the whole sonar/cell phone thing but I thought it really balanced the film and not only helped increase the image of Batman as a technological genius and brilliant detective (something he seemed to be missing in The Dark Knight) but brought up a politically topical subject. Great stuff...

Speaking of moral situations. (*SPOILERS*what do you think about the ferrie situation? Would you blow the convicts sky high in order to save a boat full of inocent people? Would the guilt be too much, or would you just wait it out and put your life in the hands of a bunch of criminals, and a vigilante 'super hero'?)

More Spoilers!

To be completely honest... I'd swim for it. I wouldn't even try to make that decision or sacrifice.

Spoilers....

Not to mention the charges were obviously wired to their own boat. Totally Joker's style, and perfectly ironic.

I thought that too, but that wasn't a part of the question.

I, personally, would not have hit the button either way.

it was fine for my 7 year old ... but it depends on the kid .. they're all different.

Mine can handle a darker Batman ... but he sure as fuck couldnt handle the films R. Usher has shown his kids.

Fantasy violence is one thing ... but i know my kid isnt emotionally equiped at this point to handle rape and torture violence - especially how they are presented in a lot of horror movies. (slow, lingering and exploitive)

also - i would always worry if there was anything going on on a subconcious lever ... not visible now but something that could have a time bomb effect later in life. I'm not willing to gamble on certain things.

that being said - kids are a lot more informed - and jaded these days..

my kid had no problem with 2 face's makeup effects.

40 years ago it would have scared the shit out of me and given me night terrors. back then we didnt have special features on DVDs that showed how makeup and FX were done)

but The Dark Knight ... i'd day that there are a couple of things that might bother a more sensitive kid ... but not too much.

there is a bit with a pencil that is pretty nasty when you think about it - but its done very quickly - and non graphically.
