I have this idea about mattresses
No, not that, but I did get your attention....and sorry, but this subject is way more boring......
I was watching this show about recycling and how there are only 5 companies in the entire world that recycle old mattresses. Asked how many mattresses end up in landfills was said to be in the billions. So, this idea popped into my head. How about someone somewhere organize a local company in a town near you... where you can take your old worn out mattress and get a new one made from it? I wouldn't mind sleeping on the couch for a week for that. Does that sound like an ok idea? And does anyone know where I would even began to get this idea out to people that could actually do something with it? |

Would it be cost effective? I don't know if you have the logistics down yet but I certainly wouldn't pay close to the price of a new mattress just to have the one I own refurbished.

I had that problem when i bought a new bed 3 years ago. My body had just got used to that mattress even tho it probably wasn't the best for my back.

Contact your local news station about it. They might, if you're lucky, run a story. Or the newspaper.

I can see that but once it's refurbished it will probably be changed forever...

The recycler takes your mattress apart and puts all the different pieces in piles...then they load all the seperate piles into trucks to get clean, reworked, put back together...
It would be like your mattress gets worn out and then getting a brand new mattress ...but made from your old mattress:D Also, I am sure there would be some type of fee to get it done but nowhere near the price of a new mattress. The thing is, I have no hope anymore that we can save our planet, but I do think that we have the technology and the creativity to not make another new thing that causes more pollution and waste. I think that we have enough loose materials floating around to recycle EVERYTHING. |

Doesn't recycling paper have chemical byproducts from bleaching and isn't 90% of paper made from trees grown for just that purpose? i alot of what we think we recycle end up in land fills any way. In Ireland where i live- a lot of those waste products we carfull sorted were shipped to spain and dumped in a land film there... |
