Yet another Final Destination coming!

(via IGN)

April 26, 2010 - Final? Ain't no such thing in Hollywood.

The case in point du jour would be the Final Destination series, which is now getting a fifth installment.

Heat Vision is reporting that Eric Heisserer, the man behind the currently shooting prequel to The Thing, is writing Final Destination 5 for New Line. He also wrote the studio's new A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Eric Heisserer has updated his official site with the following message that confirms the report: "I began work on the script earlier this year, and I'm still in the process of improving it, with help from producer Craig Perry and New Line gurus Walter Hamada and Dave Neustadter. While I can't get into specifics on the project, I can say that we're aiming to create a mood and a story more comparable to the first Final Destination movie, reclaiming some of the mystery and supernatural. In a sense we're going back to basics, focusing on what makes a suspense/horror movie work — not just what makes an FD movie work. That said, if you're thinking of getting laser eye correction surgery done, you might want to do it before this movie is released."

The only detail of the film's plot so far involves a character undergoing laser eye surgery.

As Heat Vision reports, the most recent film, called simply The Final Destination, had problems including reshoots and a "critical drubbing," leading to the studio thinking it would be the last installment of the series which began 10 years ago.

But $66 million later (domestic) New Line is rethinking that assumption.

"New Line, hoping to stave off a mummifying franchise, is trying to break out of the repetition of the first four movies and believes that Heisserer is part of the solution," says the site. "[He's] developing a reputation for being the go-to guy for reinventing branded material."

And yes, Final Destination 5 will be shot in 3D.

I'm going to have the same attitude to this as I did to the last one.

I'll watch it when it's on tele.

Ok guys, anyone else up for making a Final Destination 6?

The plot: As it turns out, death is not satisfied, more and more people start to cheat death in a convoluted six degrees of Kevin Bacon moment. Meteor hits earth.

The Fucking END!

(Two hours of black screen)

credits.
