Step it up a notch

Hi. I'm absolutely new to this forum, but I figure I gotta start somewhere.

I'm a massive fan of horror films and always have been.

I've plowed my way through just about everything I've been able to dig up (which didn't stink to high heaven on first sight).

I'm here because I hope to find new venues and new ideas, which I haven't explored before.

I occasionally do horror stories/comics on the side and I'm always looking for inspiration.

Right now I'm especially looking for those lost chucks of gold I know exist somewhere out there. Any help on where to start is appreciated (google just isn't enough anymore!)

What's gold to you might be a smelly turd to others.

So what kind of turd are you looking for?

And welcome.

I hear they're going to bronze Chuck Norris, but I don't know of any chucks of gold...

Welcome to the forum. Speaking of gold I had a dream that I was a gold rush bride the other day-no wonder people keep mistaking me for a woman.

Okay - so I'm thinking I probably wanted to write "chunks" of gold...

HOWEVER - should one of you have a golden Chuck Norris stored away somewhere I would be very interested - not in where, but the why?! (and possibly the how!?)

I have been going over the latest threads in the forum and I feel confident I'll be able to dig up something interesting in here. The problem with having been through quite a lot of movies by now is, that I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking for?

I recently watched The Beyond and The Changeling. I quite liked both of them (although The Beyond was a acting disaster). I think I've had enough of Asian horror movies for now. I think a lot of them are far better than most of what Hollywood pumps out, but they get a tad predictable.

So what should we call it then? I guess I'm looking for films that are slightly more exploratory than others? I liked the idea behind The Cabin in the Woods (although I didn't actually like the movie) and I enjoyed The Beyond because it was just stringing together random sequences of scary-wary stuff.

I'm thinking I should probably work my way through some of lists in here, before I post any formal requests.

[Edit] Ooh! I also watched The Innocents again a couple of weeks ago! If anybody can point me towards something of that caliber I would be grateful!

Alright so it's atmospheric and surreal horror you're looking for.

That's good to know.

I always suggest people to watch Dark Remains when they ask for scary ghost movies. Another acting disaster with a low budget, but the director sure knows about scares and atmosphere. Really looking forward to his next project that has finally seen the light of day on IMDB after 7 freakin years of silence!!

A few from this year that i liked was:

The Pact
The Haunting of Whaley House (Another acting train wreck with some effective scares)

Welcome to the forum. If you want gold you're probably gonna have to pan for it. Hit the thrift shops and used music/video stores and look for titles you've never seen before and see what you get. That's what I do. I also look for legendary stuff I've read about but have never seen on the shelves, like Fulchi's New York Ripper. Keep hoping that'll pop up someday.
