I think I will actually go with Angra on this one. In the Mouth of Madness was one of the most original horror movie ideas ever, in my opinion. Great movie too.

Yes, I actually love that film. I would probably place it in my top 10-15. It is interesting that you bring that up because I was just discussing that film elsewhere.

I don't mind a little mystery. And I don't need characters giving me a summary of the events.
But often I find it just lazy to leave certain things unexplained.
It's like the writer says
"Uhm... Screw it! I can't be bothered with this. Let them figure it out."
Same thing goes for half assed open endings like the one in Killer Joe.
I want the writer to finish his story.

Why can't Carpenter come up with this kind of movies more often?

Yeah, it's brilliant.
Carpenter would be the right guy to turn some Lovecraft stories into movies.
Or to make movies similar to H.P.'s work.
