Best Speeches
A lot of movies have their big "Lead up to the film's climax" speeches. Many (if not most) are horribly cheesy, but some are great. I admit, for as horrible as it really is, I liked Bill Pullman's speech in Independance Day. At least he was a likeable president (probably because he was fake)
However, the one that probably gets me the most pumped is Charles S Dutton's speech in Alien 3: You're all gonna die. The only question is how you check out. Do you want it on your feet? Or on your fuckin' knees... begging? I ain't much for begging! Nobody ever gave me nothing! So I say fuck that thing! Let's fight it!

Reggie's whole crazed-sounding "We gotta snag that Tall Dude" speech in PHAnTASM. Supposedly this got some applause in some theatres when the film came out...

hmm...several come to mind...
Samuel L.Jackson's Bible quote in Pulp Fiction...dont remember the exact words but it was something like "striking down with a vengeance upon all those who tried to destroy his brothers" and so on... The speech to Tim Robbins in Jacob's Ladder...something about "the only thing which burns in Hell is part of your life which wont let go of the memories and attachments, its not punishment but freedom"... Jack Nicholson's closing words in A Few Good Men..."YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH!" etc... Willem Dafoe's character Elias in Platoon..."We have been kicking asses for so long its bout time we get ours kicked..." Am thinking of more...

All war-movies have those "winner" lines. And it´s always before the big battle.
But non of them beats R. Lee Ermey´s lines in "Full metal jacket". "Are you quitting on me? Well, are you? Then quit, you slimy fucking walrus-looking piece of shit. Get the fuck off of my obstacle. Get the fuck down off of my obstacle. Now. Move it. I'm going to rip your balls off, so you cannot contaminate the rest of the world. I will motivate you, Private Pyle, if it short-dicks every cannibal on the Congo." " Today... is Christmas! There will be a magic show at zero-nine-thirty! Chaplain Charlie will tell you about how the free world will conquer Communism with the aid of God and a few marines! God has a hard-on for marines because we kill everything we see! He plays His games, we play ours! To show our appreciation for so much power, we keep heaven packed with fresh souls! God was here before the Marine Corps! So you can give your heart to Jesus, but your ass belongs to the Corps! Do you ladies understand?" " If you ladies leave my island, if you survive recruit training, you will be a weapon. You will be a minister of death praying for war. But until that day you are pukes. You are the lowest form of life on Earth. You are not even human, fucking beings. You are nothing but unorganized grabastic pieces of amphibian shit. Because I am hard you will not like me. But the more you hate me the more you will learn. I am hard but I am fair. There is no racial bigotry here. I do not look down on niggers, kikes, wops or greasers. Here you are all equally worthless. And my orders are to weed out all non-hackers who do not pack the gear to serve in my beloved Corps. Do you maggots understand that?" " Who said that? Who the fuck said that? Who's the slimy little communist shit, twinkle-toed cocksucker down here who just signed his own death warrant? Nobody, huh? The fairy fucking godmother said it. Out-fucking-standing. I will PT you all until you fucking die. I'll PT you until your assholes are sucking buttermilk." " The deadliest weapon in the world is a marine and his rifle. It is your killer instinct which must be harnessed if you expect to survive in combat. Your rifle is only a tool. It is a hard heart that kills. If your killer instincts are not clean and strong you will hesitate at the moment of truth. You will not kill. You will become dead marines and then you will be in a world of shit because marines are not allowed to die without permission. Do you maggots understand?" " Tonight, you men will sleep with your rifles. You will give your rifle a girl's name because this is the only pussy you people are going to get. Your days of finger-banging ol' Mary J. Rottencrotch through her pertty pink panties are over! You're married to this piece. This weapon of iron and wood. And you will be faithful." Just about all his lines are gold in that movie, and he wasn´t even nominated for an Oscar for that role. What´s wrong with the world?...

R Lee Ermey is a god among men...
My favorite lines from FMJ: Pyle, you climb like old people fuck! Don't fall pyle! That would break my fucking heart! Pyle, your ass looks like 200 pounds of chewed bubblegum! How could i forget this one? "Over?! Nothing is over until WE decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed pearl harbor? NO! And it Aint over now! "

I think Braveheart had an okay speech and I loved the courtroom speech in Boondock Saints. Of course a lot of the previously mentioned ones were great as well. Oh... and... "Your Honor, ladies and gentleman of the audience, I don't think it's fair to call my clients frauds. Sure, the blackout was a big problem for everybody. I was trapped in an elevator for two hours and I had to make the whole time. But I don't blame them. Because one time, I turned into a dog and they helped me. Thank you. " |

:) Good call. which reminds me: This city is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions. What do you mean, "biblical"? What he means is Old Testament, Mr. Mayor, real wrath-of-God type stuff. Exactly. Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies. Rivers and seas boiling. Forty years of darkness. Earthquakes, volcanoes... The dead rising from the grave. Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria.
