New Scream trilogy
It looks like you should prepare to Scream again.
Rope of Sillicon received what it claims is a screen capture of a William Morris Agency e-mail memo announcing that screenwriter Kevin Williamson has closed a deal with The Weinstein Company to "recreate the Scream franchise as a new trilogy in Scream 4, 5 and 6." The purported memo also says that Williamson has committed to write and direct a remake of the 1987 thriller The Bedroom Window. And what of the involvement of Scream series director Wes Craven? Well, Bloody Disgusting recently chatted with the filmmaker who advised them that "it would take it being really as good a script as the first one was" in order for him to helm Scream 4, which he confirmed was indeed moving ahead at the studio. Craven added that his pay day for Scream 4 would need to reflect "what I've done for that company and what I've gone through on Cursed." The Arquettes are in negotiations to return to the Scream trilogy, according to Entertainment Weekly. Their "Hollywood Insider" column reports that writer Kevin Williamson -- who is re-launching the knowing horror franchise as a new trilogy -- has approached Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette to return to the series. Apparently these deals have not yet been signed as there are scheduling problems to be ironed out first, and it's not clear how large the roles will be. The potential casting of the Arquettes doesn't clear up the confusion over whether the new Scream movies will reboot the franchise or work as straight sequels.

They have to be sequals don't they, other wise it would be even worse than I could imagine.

E! Online broke the news last afternoon that both David Arquette and Courteney Cox have officially signed on to return as Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers respectively in the Weinstein Company's Scream 4.
"We are going to be doing Scream 4," Arquette tells the site. "Kevin Williamson is writing the script at this moment, and hopefully Wes Craven is going to direct." As been told by Craven himself, if the money/script was right, he'd return to helm the mega franchise that took the 90's by storm. Its been presumed that the film will be a younger version of the Scream films, although Neve Campbell threw a kink in the wheel by refusing to return as Sidney Prescott. Stay tuned for further updates as they unwrap.

Courteney Cox, who is set to star in a fourth Scream movie, elaborated on a few details that were revealed by writer Kevin Williamson a couple of days ago about the sequel, which picks up the story 10 years after the events in 2000's Scream 3.
Cox will reprise the role of TV reporter Gale Weathers. "She has a kid now," Cox said in a group interview Saturday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Pasadena, Calif., where she was promoting her ABC show Cougar Town. "She's married to Dewey." Scream 3 ended with Deputy Dewey (David Arquette, Cox's real-life husband) proposing to local newswoman-turned-true-crime guru Gale. The characters bonded during their investigation of the first Scream murders, through the campus crimes of Scream 2 and the film-within-the-film of Scream 3. Williamson previously described Scream 4 as the beginning of a new trilogy. Cox has no trepidations about beginning another three films. "No, because [I take things] one day at a time," she said. "But I heard the idea for Scream 4, and it's fantastic." The Scream series tweaked the conventions of horror movies as film-obsessed killers terrorized teens a la their favorite slashers. Nearly a decade later, Cox said that she is ready for round four. "I'm excited," she said. "It'll be really fun." With Cox and Williamson both beginning new shows this season, Williamson expects to turn in a final draft for Scream 4 during hiatus and make final deals with cast and directors after that.

If Scream 4 is as good as the first two films, I can not wait to see!
A trilogy? They should begin with making a good fourth strand. |

Despite earlier reports that she would not do the film, Neve Campbell is ready to Scream again.
The actress is set to star in Scream 4, according to Variety. Campbell toplined the first three entries in the horror satire series. Courteney Cox and David Arquette will also reprise their roles for the sequel. The trade adds that The Weinstein Co. is in talks with Wes Craven to come to direct. Production will begin in March or April 2010. In related news, Studio head Bob Weinstein issued the pronouncement: "I'm heading back to my franchise films." The plan on paper calls for a veritable blitzkrieg of sequels, many of them in 3-D. The studio will partner with Disney for a fourth "Spy Kids" movie. Robert Rodriguez will write/direct and the film will be shot in 3-D. Plans for "Halloween 3-D" also continue, with an October 2010 release targeted. "Hellraiser" and "Scanners" sequels are also in the offing for 3-D treatments, and returns to "Children of the Corn," "Short Circuit" and "An American Werewolf in London" are also planned.

the first one was decent. the second i thought was just terrible, and the third was good because they finally got off that partner-killer thing. hopefully the fourth will stick with that.
