District 9 - part II

Following a more-than-decent splash at the U.S. box office ($37m and counting), and a raft of excellent reviews, it was only a matter of time before talk of a District 9 sequel began.

Indeed director Neill Blomkamp has already begun blabbing about the prospect of a follow up to his ground-breaking feature to SciFiMoviePage, stating: "Yeah, I'd totally make a sequel."

He said: "I've got an inclination of an idea, but it's so not fleshed out yet... [However] if it was done well, it would be cool to make another one.

"But there's nothing official yet, other than the studio saying they want one -- it's just the case of what the hell it is! It could go a lot of different ways, like what happens to Wikus? How do you wrap that character up? Does he become human again? I'd have to really think about how it goes."

Blompkamp did, however, rule out doing a prequel... almost. "The only reason to do a prequel is because I find Wikus such a hilarious character... that I feel like I want to see more of him... if you take him at the beginning of this film, he's a more interesting character to me, so I'd like to see two hours of him being that character, but that's the only reason to go backwards."

Besides a D9 sequel, the director also revealed he was working on another sci-fi project that will be "set on a different planet and set way in the future," but it sounds like it's only in the ideas stage.
