3 Musketeers now in 3D!

Resident Evil director Paul WS Anderson is set to bring a new version of 'The Three Musketeers' to the big screen, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The helmer is planning a 3D version of Alexandre Dumas' classic swashbuckling tale, and is promising a contemporary take on the story. Set in 19th century France, the plot follows youngster d'Artagnan - who leaves home to join the celebrated fighting force.

Although the film will retain the period setting, Anderson told the trade mag: "We are definitely modernizing 'The Three Musketeers' without compromising the fun of shooting a period piece.

"But in our film, corsets and feathered hats don't take centre stage. Our version is rich in eye-popping action, romance and adventure."

Andrew Davis, who penned the likes of Bridget Jones's Diary and the Brit TV version of Pride and Prejudice, will write the script with Anderson.

Shooting is set to begin next year, in time for a 2011 release.
