Screenwriter Philip Eisner has been taking it easy for the last few years. The writer, best known for his "'The Shining' in outer space" horror film "Event Horizon", has been living off the royalties from his previous projects and not writing much. But his days of rest and relaxation are just about over, as he gets ready to unleash a new zombie movie on horror fans.

The Texas native has been scouting locations around his hometown of Fort Worth for what he calls alternately "the film you don't dare see," - "The Last Picture Show ... but with zombies," or "just a really bitchin' straightforward monster movie." The movie has also been described as an NC-17 bloodbath - a total B-movie menace saluting the culty, misogynistic works of horror filmmaker Herschell Gordon Lewis.

Eisner says the low budget ($1,000,000?) graphic zombie flick he's planning will get made with or without studio support. Even if it doesn't make it big in the theaters, he believes (as do most horror fans) that low budget horror makes a great rental for home viewers.

With a short but notable history in the genre, Eisner's name should make it easier for his new film to get noticed by studios and fans. Five years ago he signed a deal to write "Firestarter: Rekindled" (which was released in 2002) for the Sci Fi Channel, as well as writing the $28 million grossing "Event Horizon" in 1997. He also sold a script to producer Lawrence Gordon ("Predator", "Tomb Raider", "Hellboy", etc.) in the late 80's, but the movie ("Wirehead") never got made.

No release date or title for his new zombie movie are yet available.
