Nirvana Director Takes on Freddie Krueger
Music video director tapped for 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' remake.
Freddy fans rejoice! A remake of the horror classic A Nightmare of Elm Street is in the works. Platinum Dunes and New Line Cinema have tapped music video and commercial veteran Samuel Bayer to direct the pic.
Bayer is best known for directing many big music videos during the alternative rock era - including Nirvana's seminal "Smells Like Teen Spirit" video, as well as Blind Melon's No Rain video. In addition to working with musicians from Iron Maiden to Marilyn Manson to Natalie Imbruglia, Bayer has also directed Clio Award-winning commercials for Nike, Coca-Cola, and Toyota.
Bayer is also agreed to direct Fiasco Heights, a thriller for Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes studio.
The Elm Street remake is expected to focus on the original movie rather than combine elements of all movies in the franchise.
