Jennifer Connelly To Dive Into "Dark Water"
Hideo Nakata's supernatural horror faces an English-language remake.

Pandemonium Films' rendering of the eerie Japanese "Dark Water" is moving toward production. Oscar winner Jennifer Connelly ("Requiem for a Dream") is considering taking the lead role of a harried, emotional mother who, with her young daughter, moves into an apartment haunted by a the spirit of a long-missing child.

Brazilian Walter Salles will direct the movie. Salles' most recent film is "The Motorcycle Diaries," based on the diaries of Che Guevara and his friend Alberto Granado about their trip across Latin America in 1952.

The original "Dark Water" came last year from Japanese director Hideo Nakata ("Ringu"). Shooting on the remake is supposed to being in January, shooting in Toronto and New York.

Two other of Hideo's movies are set to be remade in the States. Universal is working on a remake Nakata's murder thriller "Kaosu" ("Chaos"), while DreamWorks puts together the sequel to its remake of "Ringu". On the flip side, Nakata is working on his first English language movie, "True Believers", for MGM.
