why anyone would want to deliberately put a child through the pain of loss of a loved toy/blanket is beyond me

I agree, any attempts i have seen to "toughen" kids has made them hard instead, which is not at all the same thing, or a good one.

Or... In my family the tradition was to find something to traumatize you and then make a big joke out of scaring the hell out of you. My aunt used to chase my bro around with a vaccuum cleaner because it scared him, which she thought was hysterical. Now, he's a cop.

don't worry - i still carry around my 'bankie' - its a bit worn by now but i've never lost my attachment and look how well i turned out

Opie & Anthony sound like they were probably the types of fags in high school that were somewhere in the mid-level of popularity and also would try to pick on the slightly less cool kids to make themselves look/feel cooler. Fuck them, they sound like total assholes. I hope a legion of hobos rises up and beats the fuck out of 'em. Now THAT would be funny.

We probably all knew a few assholes like that in high school... At least those of us that went to middle-large public high schools. Mine sucked. We had a bunch of "cliques" and it was fuckin' ridiculous.

There were 'the jocks' and 'the preps'. They hung out together in their letterman jackets and talked about sex and sports.

Then there were the 'choir kids' and 'theatre geeks' that basically formed the nerd group. (You could throw some honor students in there too.)

Then there were 'the dirties'. This clique was basically any goths, vamps, darksiders, heavy drug users, metalheads or punk rockers.

Then there was the snowboarder/skateboarder crew that I would probably categorize myself in if I had to. Somehow, the snowbaord crew sorta transcended the cliques without much trouble. The Preppies & Jocks hated the Dirties and they'd fight all the time. The snowboarders were pretty much able to move freely throughout the different cliques and able to get along pretty well with everyone. The nerds pretty much kept to themselves and did homework or whatever it is they do... Practice singing maybe, I don't know.


High school popularity cliques are a really stupid thing. I never saw the point in limiting myself to 1 particular group of friends.
